Pilot · 2024

Testing the watersacross the border.

Between Phase 2 and Kilifi, we ran a one month test in Uganda and Tanzania. It wasn’t a full phase. It was us asking: does Ficha Uchi travel, and what needs to change?

What we tested

Three questions

Test 1

Geo targeted content

We pointed Facebook, Instagram and X posts at audiences in Uganda and Tanzania only, introducing #FichaUchi and what personal data is.

Test 2

Does it travel?

Tanzania leaned in hard, with exceptionally high engagement. Uganda needed more local flavour, so we planned influencers and Luganda slang.

Test 3

Local voices next

We lined up TikTok creators in both countries to test content in their own slang: Txdullah, Leenereid1 and McMsigala in Tanzania, Bisherkashug, BrennanBaby and UncleMo in Uganda.

Where

Two countries, two stories

Tanzania

Engagement was exceptionally high from the very first weeks. Swahili content landed naturally.

Uganda

Reach was good but engagement lower. The plan: local creators and Luganda slang to make it feel homegrown.

What’s next

Building toward East Africa

The pilot showed the message travels, especially in Swahili. The next step is local creators and country guides, so people in Uganda and Tanzania know exactly where to go.
